Seminar Overview
In light of this year's severe tornados and flooding, as well as the tragic events in Japan, businesses in multiple sectors are reevaluating their continuity and emergency preparedness plans. The healthcare supply chain is no exception. Participants in this seminar on Emergency Preparedness - Supply Chain Coordination will tackle the difficult questions surrounding crisis preparedness and response when communications and logistical barriers prevent business as usual.
This seminar, co-hosted with Rx Response, will bring together supply chain, government and other disaster management stakeholders to share best practices, discuss risk assessment and identify potential solutions to increase resilience in the event of severe risks to the healthcare supply chain. Interact with public health and emergency management officials at the local, state and federal government levels to broaden the discussion of strategies that will improve public and private sector communication around surge capability, supply chain security and other key response issues. Explore real-world industry examples of disaster responses, from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, to earthquakes, and regional flooding and ice storms. Get education on the Strategic National Stockpile deployment, participate in interactive roundtable discussions and examine other issues affecting the business continuity and emergency management community.

Emergency Preparedness and Response: The Role of Logistics in Public Health
This keynote presentation will share perspectives on the critical role logistics play in emergency preparedness and response in the public health sector. Hear first-hand lessons learned from disaster events and how effective logistical management factors into the movement of supplies, personnel and patients to execute various public health interventions. Dr. Vanderwagen was the founding Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services from August 2006 until July 2009.
